In this 1.5-hour workshop, participants practise writing two Japanese kanji characters related to friendship. The workshop is suitable for everyone and does not require any previous knowledge of calligraphy.

The teacher is Yukina Yamamoto, a Japanese artist based in Jyväskylä, who has been practising Japanese calligraphy for more than 20 years. In Japan, she has earned the title of shihan, which qualifies her as a teacher or researcher of calligraphy. Yamamoto holds shodō calligraphy workshops around Finland. Yamamoto is interested in developing her skills in Japanese calligraphy together with different artists. She has done performances combining Japanese calligraphy and butoh dance in Helsinki, Turku and Jyväskylä, in cooperation with the artist Mari Mäkiö and the dancer Tuuli Malla. In 2022, she will continue working with the same group of artists, as they will participate in the Öres 22 exhibition and hold three workshops on the island of Örö.
