Art collections tell us stories about the art and the ideals of their era, and particularly about the collectors themselves. When examining a collection, the viewer may peek into the collector’s dreams, emotions, hopes, and expectations. One can get whisked along to the hustle of European cities or transported to idyllic landscapes – to appreciate the sometimes surprising, sometimes painstakingly planned acquisitions.
